When is PMI TMS Registration 2026 Starting?

Registration for cohort I of the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) Training Management System (TMS) is starting on Sunday, 4th July 2026. The commencement follows an official tweet by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu which describe the scheme as an avenue to equip Nigerians with practical technical skills for the power sector.

In the announcement, interested persons were directed to submit application online at the PMI TMS portal. Note that this initiative is handled by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development in collaboration with NAPTIP and other relevant stakeholders.

Overview of the Presidential Metering Initiative

The Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) had been originally approved by President Tinubu in November 2023 with the intention of closing the metering gap amongst most users of estimated billing. The aim is to ensure that by 2027, millions of smart meters and ancillary technologies have already gone round.

Currently, an expansion has been made known as the Power Force. Relevant government officials have clarified that the existing certified meter installer pool is not enough to cater for the estimated seven (7) million metering gap in the country.

Through this training, at least 5,000 more installers will be added within the next two years which will help curb the deficit and overall improve power stability.

The training shall be handled by the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria while certifications will be issued by the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency. This also serves as an employment opportunity because selected persons will be earning a minimum of N77,000 on a monthly basis.

  • It is fully government funded: This training will boost your skill box and is fully funded by the Federal Government of Nigeria. Trainees are not expected to pay for the tuition fees throughout the set period.
  • No prior experience is required: The training will be from scratch; you need to have any prior electrical knowledge or how the power sector operates.
  • It leads to recognised certification: At the end of the training, all trainee shall receive NEMSA certifications which makes it nationally recognizable. You could gain employment into any power sector with this.
  • It offers a direct pathway to employment: At the end of the training, those who stayed till be end shall be connected with relevant electricity distribution companies, meter providers, and other employers in the power sector.
  • It supports income and entrepreneurship: During the program, the government will be paying you N77,000 monthly. According to the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, the initiative will give youths practical skills, recognised certification and a direct pathway to meaningful work that supports national development.

The criteria that make you eligible to apply for this initiative are listed below, carefully go through it to ensure you adhere accordingly.

  • Applicant must be a Nigerian citizen.
  • He or she must a valid National Identity Card like NIN, voter’s card or driver’s license etc.
  • Applicants with either SSCE, OND, HND or B.Sc.
  • Applicant must be within 18 and 50 years.
  • Shall clearly scan and upload the above documents during registration.

  1. Visit the official PMI TMS registration portal https://pmi.naptin.gov.ng
  2. Click the “apply now” button
  3. Enter your profile information like name, nationality, passport and NIN etc.
  4. Upload required documents.
  5. Verify your data and then proceed to fill the education category
  6. Select your Kit size, preview application and then submit.

It is really important you go through your application to ensure the data provided is correct especially name, date of birth, National Identification Number (NIN) and other vital information.

PMI TMS Registration 2026 Closing Date

As indicated on the PMI TMS portal, candidates have till July 4, 2026 to submit application. Those who register after this date shall not be considered for selection. Names of shortlisted persons shall be published on the same portal.
